There are many businesses offering phone unlocking for a fee, but thanks to Simox's Unlock Patch generator, we can unlock Sony Ericsson DB2020 phones ourselves for free. If you are wondering which phones are DB2020, then here are a few:

In this tutorial, I am going to show you step by step on how to unlock a DB2020 CID52 phone. Warning, do this at your own risk, I am not responsible for any damage caused. Other phones such as DB2010/DB2012 CID49 & 51 phones can also be unlocked using the same basic steps, although it can tend to differ slightly.

Requirements

• SEMC Flash Driver (Just install the Sony Ericsson Update Service to get this: Click Here
• Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista (x86 NOT AMD64 OR ITANIUM64)
• SETool 2 Lite V1.11 (Can be downloaded here: Click Here
• Simox Unlock Patch Generator (Can be downloaded here: Click Here
• Your phone's Main firmware file (Can be downloaded from: www.topse.ru/files or K550/W610 Main firmware files can be downloaded from my K550 to W610 page
• DCU-60 USB Cable (the one you get with the phone)

Tutorial

Unless you are sure your EROM is CID52, it is best if you run the Sony Ericsson Update Service to check the phone and update it to CID52 if necessary. Some DB2020 phones such as the K550 were first released with CID51, and later from July 2007 were shipped with CID52, and the unlock patch may not work on CID51. I will not go into using the Update Service, as it is fairly self-explanatory.

Because the Sony Ericsson Update service now updates phones to CID53, we cannot use it anymore! Therefore, to update your EROM to CID52, go into XS++, connect your phone, and you will be asked if you would like to update (click yes). Before we begin, it is also wise to take a GDFS backup. You can do this by simply pressing 'Read GDFS' in SETOOL, and following instructions.

First of all, open the Simox Unlock patch generator



Drag the Main firmware file onto the white area of the Simox Unlock patch generator. The generator will generate the VKP patch into the VKP directory (e.g. If the generator is stored in 'C:Simox' the VKP patches will be stored in 'C:SimoxVKP') . OK, open SETOOL, and select your phone model (e.g. W610) from the 'phone type' dropdown



Next, check 'Bypass DB2020 Security'



By the files box, click 'Add' and locate the Main firmware file for your phone (the one you used when generating the patch)



In the 'MISC' files box, locate the VKP file generated by the Simox Unlock Patch Generator



Now, hit 'FLASH'. The entire process can take up to 30 minutes, and halfway along you will be asked to remove your phone, remove battery, re-insert it, press 'Ready' and hold C and re-insert your phone. Do not interrupt the process at any time, even if it has appeared to have stopped doing anything, as this could potentially brick your phone. Also make sure you do NOT press anything like 'Write GDFS', as this could also brick your phone.
