If your O2 Wireless Box is affected, any computers from within your network trying to connect using PPTP VPN to a network will spend ages saying 'Verifying Username and Password', then disconnect saying the connection has timed out. To resolve this issue, reset your O2 Wireless Box by using a bent paper-clip and holding the reset button for a good 10 seconds. Using the reset settings option in the web based configuration pages will not work. After that, you should be good to go! This has been recommended by O2 themselves as a fix, and by other users. The problem seems to have been caused in a twist up in the wireless box's configuration created by an earlier firmware version. Performing this reset flushes the configuration and rewrites base defaults suited for the installed firmware version.

Users should also be aware that the O2 Wireless Box only supports 1 VPN GRE pass-through per time. This means only one user on your network can connect to an external VPN at a time. You may also experience problems if you don't correctly disconnect from the VPN (e.g. by pulling out your network cable), and try reconnecting again. The router will have still kept it's GRE pass-through open for the previous connection, so you will not be able to connect. Simply power cycle the router to fix this.
