ConnectShell is a customisable freeware shell for Windows 9x, designed to convert the system into a Windows 9x based Thin-Client. It locks users out of the familiar Windows Explorer shell, and instead provides an easy to use interface with two buttons (connect & shutdown) to connect to a pre-defined Terminal Server/Thin-Client system. I made this small program for two Windows 98 laptops which I wanted to convert to dedicated Citrix Thin-Clients
Features
- Customisable Logo, Window Title and Button Text to fit in with your organisation's branding
- Custom action when 'Connect' is clicked. Therefore, you can use almost any Client software (e.g. RDP Microsoft Remote Desktop Client, Citrix ICA Client) with ConnectShell
- Small file size
- Low memory usage
- Clean, simple design
- Easy, quick setup
- Comes with VB6 Runtime (SP5)
- Comes with a detailed Readme file
- Completely free
Windows NT support
The actual binary ConnectShell.exe will run on these OSes (you will need to install the VB6 runtime on NT4), but the Shutdown button may not work. Also, WinConf.exe will not have any effect, and Install.bat won't run correctly (as it uses the Deltree command). If there is demand, I may release an XP/2000/2003/Vista/2008/7 version that uses the .NET Framework, and also has a battery meter for laptops/portable computers.
